Who are The Shapeshifters?
The Shapeshifters in Dubai is one of the most anticipated bookings this August. On Saturday 29 August, Simon Marlin joins The Penthouse Presents at the venue ranked DJ Mag’s #1 Club in the Middle East. From teenage raving to creating one of house music’s defining records, Marlin has built an internationally respected career spanning global tours, iconic residencies and collaborations with artists including Billy Porter, Joss Stone, Kimberly Davis and Teni Tinks.
From Leicester to the Global Stage
Marlin made his name as a DJ and promoter in Leicester before moving into A&R, later teaming up with Max Reich to create “Lola’s Theme” – a record that became one of the biggest house anthems of its generation and launched The Shapeshifters onto the global stage. While major label success brought worldwide recognition, Marlin never lost sight of his passion for authentic house music, later joining Defected under the mentorship of Simon Dunmore while drawing inspiration from the legendary Frankie Knuckles.
A Defining Voice of Glitterbox
When Glitterbox launched in Ibiza in 2014, Marlin was there from the very beginning. From unforgettable sessions on global stages, The Shapeshifters has become one of the defining names of the Glitterbox movement, helping bring soulful house and disco back to the forefront of club culture.
A Legacy Still Growing
Following the end of the original partnership in 2017, Marlin continued The Shapeshifters as a solo project. His 2022 album Let Loose received widespread acclaim and millions of streams, while his own label, Pleased As Punch, continues to showcase his signature sound. In 2025, he surpassed 2 million monthly Spotify listeners and scored another Beatport No.1 with the Tripolism remix of “Lola’s Theme.”
